Community Action Initiative supports community-led projects addressing mental health and substance use challenges across BC through Community Action Teams (CATs). CAI funds and trains community organizations to implement innovative services aligned with BC’s Pathway to Hope.
Peer Coordinator
Job Title: Peer Coordinator for the Sunshine Coast CAT
Reports to: Project Lead and Sunshine Coast Community CAT Steering Committee
Location: Flexible within the Lower Sunshine Coast
Hours: Part Time (15-20 hours per week) Hours variable; some evenings and weekends required
Pay Rate: $27.00 per hour
Timeline: May 2025 - October 2025
Job Summary
Work with the CAT Steering Committee to integrate peer insights into team strategies. Collaborate with the Project Coordinator on peer-led approaches and public awareness outreach while actively engaging peers in CAT initiatives and meetings.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy and Support:
Define and implement peer-led strategies (e.g., peer support, safe supply, naloxone training, and employment opportunities).
Track and evaluate peer project data with the Project Lead and CAT Steering Committee.
Community Engagement:
Participate in events to promote harm reduction resources.
Engage peers in monthly CAT meetings.
Data Collection and Reporting:
Coordinate and conduct phone interviews with CAT representatives to gather information.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience with public speaking, meeting facilitation, and delivering educational sessions.
Valued experiences include lived or living experience of substance use, mental health challenges, homelessness, and harm reduction practices.
Experience with public speaking, meeting facilitation, and delivering educational sessions.
Organize and lead peer support groups for individuals facing similar challenges, encouraging open dialogue and mutual support.
Knowledge of local resources and services available to the community is a plus.
Commitment to inclusivity and diversity.
Skills and Abilities:
Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, email, internet searches).
Effective verbal and written communication; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Familiarity with reconciliation, decolonization, equity, and inclusion principles (asset).
Ability to self-direct, prioritize, and build rapport with peers and interviewees.
Requirements:
Willingness to share personal experiences as applicable.
Valid BC Driver’s license and access to a vehicle (preferred but not required).
Completion of (or willingness to complete) “Take Home Naloxone Train the Trainer” course.
Current First Aid certification (training can be arranged).
Criminal Record Check required.
Access to a computer, cell phone, and vehicle for travel within the Sunshine Coast.
